Heaven on earth

Hello!

I ve decided to write my blog in english due to my followers which have difficulties with my german ;-)

It has been quite silent since Ironman Hawaii - as everybody knows - my body simply quit afterwards. So the Hawaii aftermath was a tremendous mental and physical challenge for me.

I could not run, could just bike with a lot of pain which pulled out every motivation out of me. For nine months, I cant believe it!.

Which - lucky me - has ended yesterday! (at least I hope so).

Yesterday I ran - oh man - that felt soooo good.

I heard the monotone sound of my shoes tapping on the groung, I felt my sweat, I smelled the beautiful air, I enjoyed the scenery of beatiful lower Austria! I am happy, so happy I cant find words to describe my emotions.

Ok, still I am very slow and it will take a lot of time and effort to get a basic muscular and fitness foundation. And my muscles are really weak and my bones hurt and I am way overweight (thus I dont show a current picture ;-)!

But hey, all these problems can be solved!

But now nothing can stop me anymore - my motivation is back.

Gotta watch out that I be patient enough in setting my daily, weekly, monthly and yearly goals.

So - lessons learned:

1) Listen to your body! If it says stop - stop

2) Integrate strenght training into my training routine more effectively

3) Run! More than the last years

4) Keep my core work - it was the foundation for the good bike and run performance (if I was able to do so)

5) Increase swim time (I know... I promise)

6) Set a realistic goal

7) Be patient....

So I end this blog with my goals:

1) I want to attend a half distance race in 2012 (if not - so what)

2) I want to finish Ironman Australia 2012 or Ironman Austria 2013 (lets see)

3) I want to finish Ironman Hawaii - date unknown (but hell yeah - I will be there again!)

The good thing: I dont have to show off.

I can take my time. I was so lucky, attending several Ironmans including Hawaii, several Triathlons and bike races, runnning events etc.

Now I can do all this - just for me. What an exciting feeling.

Oh - I cant wait getting on my bike, tying my running shoes or put on my swim gear enjoying sports.

Today - I love my life!

See you out there training, racing, recover!

Watch out - I am back!

Cheers

Norbert

  1. Hi Norbert, what happened to you? Did you finish in Hawaii or did you have an accident. I don't get it out of your blog post.

Recover well, build new and then go for it again!

  2. Good luck! You can team up with Step by the way who has already registered for the 70.3 in Zell am See (Aug 26th 2012).

I'm sure if you don't push it too much but take your time and listen to your body you're gonna make a scucessful "comeback" to the triathlon world. Keep us updated!
